Carolina Sunset

An afternoon storm left debris along the beach, mostly seaweed and various piles of sticks. This was the first night of a week-long family vacation and we had just returned from dinner. Hilton Head Island sits along the Atlantic coast at the southeastern end of South Carolina. The east facing beach was in the cool shadow of a line of pine trees that separates the beach from the houses, and the sunset was breaking through the now distant storm clouds, illuminating the water with touches of pink, orange, and red.

I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful beginning to this trip from a photographic standpoint. I was experimenting with a camera technique called “Intentional camera movement” and came away with this beautiful, painterly photo. This is one of my personal favorites.
