We found ourselves standing on the edge of a cliff in Acadia National Park, Maine, after a hot day full of hiking and lobster rolls. We saw on the weather radar that rain was incoming, so we quickly stopped to have a quiet moment to ourselves, high above the calm ocean. I immediately spotted this photo.
The light wind blowing in from the ocean was chilly and the air was damp. Far in the distance the faint rhythmic clanging of the buoy’s bell could be heard. Peaceful. Far below us a seal popped its head out of the water to have a look around, offering us a quick glance before disappearing again below the surface of the water.
These places deserve to be protected.
